No one ever thinks of looking for rare designer handbags at New York estate sales but that’s where they are! It makes sense once you think it through. Get to know the owner and staff at New England Estate Sales to get the scoop on designer handbags, shoes, and accessories that are coming available. As I type this blog, we have Escada, Prada, and alike coming up for sale.
New England Estate Sales and Auction Company regularly manages the sales of Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Gucci, Ferragamo, Valentino, and Coach handbags, wallets, and accessories.
The bags that bring the most interest and return are of course the ones that are the most rare and in the best condition. If you were shrewd enough to buy bags that were seen on the runway or in Vogue magazine, be ready for a big pay day because people are prepared and happy to have the opportunity to buy the most hard to find pieces.
It’s not uncommon to find Judith Leiber handbags at our Connecticut or New York estate sales.
Judith Leiber was a Hungarian woman who started out studying chemistry for the cosmetic industry but through a family connection obtained an internship at a handbag company which started her love for handbags.
Judith Leiber handbags became recognized world wide when they began to be the “go to” gift for first ladies like Mamie Eisenhower, Barbara Bush, and Hillary Clinton. The show “Sex and the city” even had a show surrounding the gift of a Judith Leiber “swan” handbag.
Judith Leiber handbags are displayed in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Leiber also made one of the most expensive bags in the world. It was a muted Pink “rose” made with 1,016 diamonds (42.56 carats), 1,169 pink sapphires and 800 pink tourmalines all set in 18-karat white gold. Of course it was a one-of-a-kind piece.
There are only four Judith Leiber boutiques in the world. They are in New Delhi, Jakarta, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Some of her bags however can be found at Neiman Marcus, Saks 5the Ave, Harrods, and at our estate sales.
Sadly Judith Leiber passed away in April 2018 a few hours after her husband had passed away. They will be missed by all.
